Agentic Workforce

The Agentic Workforce refers to AI agents and autonomous systems that perform work tasks independently, without human intervention. As AI agents take on more responsibilities, they become entities with identity and access needs comparable to human employees.

# WHAT TEAMS RUN INTO

  • Agentic identities lack clear accountability. When an AI agent makes a mistake or causes damage, responsibility is unclear — is it the developer, the organization, or the agent itself? Audit trails must track agent decisions to assign accountability.

  • Agentic workforce creates attack surfaces. Every AI agent needs credentials and access rights. Compromising an agent gives attackers the agent's access, which might be broad if the agent needs to do many tasks.

  • Agentic identity and human identity policies diverge. Humans work 9-to-5 in normal patterns. Agents work 24/7 in patterns that might be unusual. Access policies designed for humans don't match agent usage patterns.

# WHY IT MATTERS

The agentic workforce is a fundamental shift in how work gets done. Organizations that deploy AI agents must treat agents as first-class identity subjects, not afterthoughts. Agents need authentication, authorization, audit trails, and governance just like human employees. As agents do more work, identity systems must evolve to manage agent identities as carefully as human identities.
